Castrol Optigear BM 680
high-performance ISO VG 680 gear oil with Microflux Trans technology for heavily loaded industrial gears and bearings

Castrol Optigear BM 680 is a high-performance ISO VG 680 extreme-pressure gear oil developed to protect heavily loaded industrial gears and bearings. Its advanced Microflux Trans (MFT) Plastic Deformation (PD) additive technology helps smooth microscopic surface roughness without abrasive wear when the required operating temperature and load are reached. The resulting smoother surfaces provide excellent wear protection and a very low coefficient of friction, particularly under extreme pressure, shock loads, vibration and low-speed operating conditions.

Applications:

Castrol Optigear BM 680 is designed for industrial gears and bearings operating under normal as well as extremely high loads. Its extreme-pressure properties make it particularly suitable for applications involving high loads, shock loading, vibration and low speeds where effective protection against scoring and wear is required.

Product advantages and benefits:

  • Microflux Trans (MFT) PD technology: when the required operating temperature and load are reached, the additive system helps smooth microscopic surface roughness without abrasive wear.
  • Significantly reduced friction: tests have demonstrated a reduction in the coefficient of friction of up to 60% compared with conventional oils without PD additives, helping reduce energy consumption, lower oil and component temperatures and improve gearbox efficiency.
  • Micropitting protection: Castrol PD additives help reduce and prevent micropitting on gear tooth surfaces.
  • High load-carrying capacity: excellent extreme-pressure performance supports reliable lubrication of heavily loaded industrial gears.
  • Protection against shock loads: MFT PD technology helps protect surfaces against scoring under severe and sudden loading conditions.
  • Excellent wear protection: Castrol PD technology helps reduce frictional wear and supports longer service life of gears and bearings.
  • Lower operating temperatures: reduced friction can help lower the temperature of the lubricant and lubricated components.
  • Reduced vibration: smoother operating surfaces and lower friction contribute to more stable equipment operation.
  • Improved equipment reliability: smoothing of existing surface damage can help reduce repair and replacement costs while increasing equipment reliability.
  • Extended oil service intervals: longer lubricant life and extended drain intervals can help reduce lubricant consumption and disposal costs.
  • Reduced running-in period: gearboxes can be brought to full load within a short period, practically eliminating the conventional running-in process.

Classification according to DIN and ISO standards:

  • ISO VG – 680
  • DIN 51517 Part 3 – CLP, meets or exceeds the requirements

Approvals and specifications:
The Castrol Optigear BM range meets the requirements of a wide range of industrial equipment manufacturers. The attached product data sheet does not list individual OEM approvals specifically for Castrol Optigear BM 680.

Values marked with an asterisk in the manufacturer's product data sheet were obtained using a lower viscosity grade.

Microflux Trans (MFT) Plastic Deformation technology:
The MFT PD technology used in Castrol Optigear BM 680 is designed to improve the condition of interacting metal surfaces. When the required temperature and load are reached, the additives become active and help smooth microscopic surface roughness without abrasive wear. The resulting smoother surfaces provide reduced friction and excellent protection against wear.

Protection under high loads:
Castrol Optigear BM 680 is particularly suitable for mechanisms exposed to extreme pressure, shock loads, vibration and low-speed operation. Its EP properties and MFT PD technology provide high load-carrying capacity and help protect surfaces against scoring and operational wear.

Micropitting and wear protection:
Castrol PD technology helps reduce and prevent micropitting on gear surfaces. By smoothing interacting surfaces and reducing friction, Optigear BM can contribute to longer gear and bearing service life and improved reliability of industrial drive systems.

Compatibility:
Castrol Optigear BM oils are miscible and compatible with mineral gear oils. However, maximum performance is achieved when they are not mixed with other lubricants. The range is compatible with non-ferrous metals, paints and commonly used sealing materials. The oils can also be mechanically purified using conventional filtration systems and separators.

Storage and handling:
Before using Castrol Optigear BM 680, the required viscosity grade and product suitability should be confirmed against the equipment manufacturer's recommendations. Current safety data sheet instructions should be followed for appropriate storage, safe handling and disposal.

Castrol Optigear BM 680 is a high-performance ISO VG 680 industrial gear oil with Microflux Trans (MFT) PD technology for heavily loaded gears and bearings. It provides excellent protection against wear, scoring and micropitting while helping reduce friction and improve equipment reliability. The product meets or exceeds DIN 51517 Part 3 CLP requirements.
